Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common disorder in childhood which affects children’s physical movements and postures in a great entail. Incidence of CP is about 2-3 in every 1000 live birth. In Indian traditional families the mothers have to take care of routine household activities, children and their needs. Thus, the mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy are also at more risk to develop stress and other psychological issues because of the long diurnal commitments in child rearing. The present review research is initiated to look after various factors involved in precipitating and perpetuating stress in the mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy. This review article will help professionals, service providers, stake holders and policy makers to dig functional condition of the mothers and to provide the right intervention, required social and financial support to improve mental as well as physical health and quality of life of mothers in developing country like India. The important factors associated with mother’s stress are found to be socio-demographic, related to the child, various burdens, personal and psychological, interpersonal and family, social and community, involved environment, government facilities, policies, mother’s knowledge and awareness about child’s illness.
